The City of Hillsboro’s Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS) works with HSD to create safe, convenient, and fun ways for youth to walk and roll to and from school.
This fall, SRTS partnered with Cycle Oregon to create Learn to Ride Bikes after-school clubs and PE lessons, including how to bike and walk safely on city streets. Minter Bridge PE teacher Mrs. Morgan ran a successful after-school club with SRTS in November, which left smiling faces on students learning to ride bikes for the first time. Similar programs took place in January at W.L. Henry and Mooberry Elementary Schools, and included elementary students from Hillsboro Online Academy.
SRTS has also partnered with WashCo Bikes to host Bike Rodeos, which provide bicycles, helmets, and locks to students in need. Students who already own bikes can still l

Staff and volunteers who have been background checked through HSD are invited to participate in a Learn to Ride Instructor class on Monday, February 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (includes one hour lunch break) in the McKinney Elementary School gym. The class covers ODE wellness and physical education standards and is appropriate for teachers, other staff, or volunteers who are interested in running an after-school program.
